I’ve been changing theme and some style and all of sudden WP Super Cache crashed. It started to show following error:
Error: Your cache directory () did not exist and couldn’t be created by the web server. Check permissions.Cannot continue… fix previous problems and retry.
Since there was no changes in web hosting or any settings it is strange to see such error.
I checked the super cache folder permissions and it all looked ok.
I went back to the admin to find out the problem and I saw that WP Super Cache plugin is disabled by itself.
To solve this issue first I disabled the WP Super Cache plugin. Then I implemented the style changes which I was doing and enabled plugin again.
I can see no error now but the caching doesn’t work. In the source I see followings
<!– Page not cached by WP Super Cache. Check your settings page. –>
It is so strange, why WP Super cache start to give problems with WordPress 3.1.2 version?
Just to confirm that this is working now and pages are being cached.
So the solution is to disable the plugin and enable again. You will have to reconfigure it though as settings are lost when you disable WP Super Cache plugin.
